In his first two seasons at GCCC, he has taken the Busters under his wing and developed the program into a national power house. Gorton has guided the Busters to back-to-back Region VI Final Four appearances (2007, 2008). He has proven to bring in some of the most talented players in JUCO soccer. In just the second year at the helm Gorton took the Busters all the way to the National Tournament and a Final Four appearance. Along the way, Gorton won the Region VI Championship, and the Plains District Championship. The Busters finished the '08 campaign with a record of 19-3-1 and a national ranking of #4.
Gorton came to Garden City from Western Illinois University, where he was an assistant for the men’s soccer program in 2004. While on the Leathernecks staff, he helped guide them to a Mid Continent Conference Tournament Championship, including an appearance in the 2004 NCAA Tournament where they eventually lost to Northwestern University. The Leathernecks saw 4 players named to the Mid Continent All Conference team, 1 player named to the All Region team-Midwest, the Mid Con tournament MVP, and 2 players from that team went on to play professionally- with one being drafted by the Colorado Rapids (MLS), and another with the Richmond Kickers (USL D.2).
“I am very happy to be a part of the Buster Athletic tradition. I am very excited to see where the athletic programs here are headed, not just in soccer. I really look forward to the day where the Buster Soccer program is the elite program in JUCO soccer.”
